Members of the Knesset Yulia Malinovski and Karin Elharer attacked the Chairman of the Constitution Committee, Simcha Rotman following his disregard, according to them, of the Knesset's legal advice • "The discussions are held in complete contradiction to the practice and procedure in the Knesset"

MKs from Yesh Atid and Yisrael Beitenu are expected to boycott this morning (Sunday) the speeding up of the deliberations in the Constitutional Committee on legal reform. According to them, this is a deviation from the procedure in the Knesset according to which a legal opinion is presented in connection with bills that come before the committee's table.

MK Yulia Malinovski (Israel Beitenu) stated that "We members of the Constitution Committee from the opposition factions will not participate in the undemocratic idle debates scheduled in the committee on the Judiciary Basic Law.

This is because the discussions are held without adequate professional background material and without a legal opinion, in complete contradiction to the practice and procedure in the Knesset in general and the Constitution Committee in particular, and in blatant disregard of the Knesset's legal advice.

"The conduct of the Chairman of the Constitutional Committee, MK Rothman, expresses one by one his, Minister Levin's, and Prime Minister Netanyahu's intentions regarding the entire judicial system - disrupting the order of democracy and silencing the voice of the legal advisors and the judges."

MK Karin Elharar (Yesh Atid) tweeted that: "We will boycott all discussions on the constitution until the opinion of the legal counsel to the Knesset is presented to us and proper discussion procedures are guaranteed.

Legal advisors are not props.

We will not cooperate with MK Rotman's presentation as if there is a debate on the bill, when in practice the legal advice is isolated. We will not cooperate with their attempt to trample on democracy."

We will not cooperate with @rothmar's presentation as if there is a debate on the bill, when in practice the legal advice is isolated.

We will not cooperate with their attempt to trample democracy.

Last week, the Knesset's Constitution Committee began a series of discussions promoting the legal reform promoted by Justice Minister Yariv Levin.

The first topic proposed is a discussion of the status of the Attorney General.

The text of the proposed law deals with amending the basic law: the government, which will state that the opinion of the ombudsman as well as the legal advisors will only be advisory and not binding. The status of the attorney general, as of today, is not anchored in the law but only in the case law.
