The dog Spike, a 23-year-old mixed Chihuahua from Ohio, won the coveted title of "the oldest dog in the world" and entered the Guinness Book of Records.

Born in November 1999, Spike received the title on December 7, 2022 with a certificate proving he is "at least 23 years and seven days old".

Rita Kimball, Spike's owner, found him 14 years ago abandoned in a grocery store parking lot in 2009, explained in a letter the book of records sent to CNN.

"His back was shaved, he had blood stains on his neck from an iron chain or rope, and he didn't look well," Kimball said.

The seller at the grocery store told her that the dog had been in the parking lot for three days, and no one had come to pick it up.

Kimble decided to adopt the ten-year-old puppy and took him to her farm.

"Spike jumped in the car seat, like he knew where we were going. It was supposed to happen," Kimball recalled.

Spike, who weighs about six kilograms, survived several attacks by other animals but "came back stronger each time," the letter said.

Spike beat Gino Wolff, who was the oldest dog before him, at the age of 22 and 52 days.

Spike is now nearly blind and hard of hearing, preferring to spend his time with people he knows.

According to the Guinness Book of Records, the oldest dog in history was an Australian cattle herder named Bluey, who died in 1939 at the age of 29 years and five days.

Far from Ohio, in northeastern Australia, scientists were amazed last week when they accidentally found the largest toad weighing about three kilograms.

The animal, nicknamed "Toadzilla," was found in Queensland's Conway National Park when park rangers conducted monitoring, according to the Australian state's Department of Environment and Science.

In a tweet Thursday, the department wrote that rangers "were shocked to find the cane toad, also known as the giant

toad. The cane toad is a species of large terrestrial toad found in Central and South America. It was introduced to Southeast Asia and Australia in 1935 to exterminate cane beetles , and became an invasive species. The researchers believe that it is a female, because the females of this species are larger than the males.

According to the Guinness Book of Records, the largest toad so far was Princen who weighed 2.65 kilograms and lived in Sweden.
