The state will immediately stop subsidizing the events of the "Weekend of Israeli Culture" project that took place in the Upper Galilee Regional Council - this is what the head of the council, Giora Zaltz, said today (Sunday).
According to him, since the state subsidizes 90% of the costs of the events, this means the cancellation of a series of events intended for thousands of residents from the council's settlements and the entire Upper Galilee.
In response, the Ministry of Culture and Sports stated that it is "currently examining the Israeli Shabbat project, the result of the initiative of the previous Minister of Culture and Sports."
He also said that the "Israeli Sabbath" project, which operates on Saturdays in four museums in the council, will be frozen starting at the end of the month in favor of "organization and preparation."
"It is to be hoped that this lovely and important project will be renewed, otherwise this is hard and serious news, and a real violation of the right of the country's residents to consume quality Israeli culture," said Zaltz.
"This is doubly true in our case, a council located in the periphery and most of its settlements are conflict line settlements," he added.
The project "the fruit of the initiative of the previous Minister of Culture and Sports" is currently being examined.

"Our residents deserve full rights, even if they live in settlements with a secular color," Zaltz continued.
"I believe in pluralism and the attitude of 'live and let live', according to which I will not dictate to other people how to conduct themselves on their Shabbat, and they will not dictate to me whether and how to spend my Shabbat. A similar attitude was demonstrated by the outgoing Minister of Culture, Hili Trooper, a religious person who of course observes Shabbat.
" I expect the Ministry of Culture to withdraw and allow the residents of the periphery to consume culture and live their lives according to the dictates of their conscience.
It is important for me to point out that, as in the education system, in culture as well, we will continue to follow our own path and find the resources to finance the activities. " The
"Israeli Shabbat" project allowed families to go out and get to know heritage sites, museums, and a host of other activities at no cost during the weekends. The "Israeli Shabbat" project was made Subsidized by the Ministry of Culture and Sports, including sites of archaeology, history, heritage, nature, science, technology, art, design, theater, cinema,
