Hama, SANA- The Public Corporation for Drinking Water in Hama governorate has completed a project to install a solar energy system, to operate a water well.

The Public Corporation for Drinking Water in Hama Governorate has completed a project to install a solar energy system, to operate a drinking water well in the town of Tal Jadid in the eastern countryside of Salamiyah, to secure electricity supply around the clock, at a cost of 220 million Syrian pounds.

The Director General of the Corporation, Dr. Moti` al-Abshi, told SANA reporter that the implemented works included the installation of solar panels, with inverter equipment and a start-up board to continue the electric supply to the most important wells located within the region, and to ensure the continuity of water pumping and securing it for the population centers in the eastern countryside of the governorate.

He added, "Work is currently underway to implement the mechanical and electrical equipment works for 11 wells drilled, in cooperation with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF). These include 5 wells in the city of Hama in the neighborhoods of Al-Qusour, Al-Sharia, Tishreen and Al-Hasaniyat, and 4 wells in the Al-Juraifat site, south of the city of Masyaf, and one in Each of the villages of Khirbet al-Qasr and Hanjour, expected to be put into service during the month of February.

Al-Abshi indicated that work is continuing on the Nahr Al-Bared water project in Al-Ghab region, in cooperation with UNICEF, which would provide drinking water to the villages and towns of Nahr Al-Bared, Al-Abr, Al-Shajar and Al-Khandaq, and includes the implementation of a reservoir with a capacity of 2,000 cubic meters and pumping and liquefaction lines.

Al-Abshi indicated that the Foundation is also working on the implementation of the electrical connection project for the Al-Webedi project, which irrigates the towns of Taibat Al-Imam and Soran, and the cupping project, which irrigates the town of Maaradis, to exclude the wells of the two projects from the electrical rationing programmes, pointing out that an agreement has been reached with UNICEF to finance this project with an estimated value of 2 billion. Pounds, which would alleviate the suffering of the people of the northern countryside, and secure drinking water for the people returning to their villages and towns liberated from terrorism.
