US President Joe Biden is about to appoint a new chief of staff.
Former coronavirus coordinator Jeff Zients will soon take over the post, a person familiar with the matter said, according to the Reuters news agency.
The AP news agency also reports accordingly.
Zients would thus play a key role in Biden's likely re-election preparations.
Joe Biden is expected to announce next month that he will run for president again in 2024.
It had previously been said that former chief of staff Ron Klain intended to give up his post and had already informed Biden about it.
The New York Times reported that Klain appeared to be stepping down after the President's February 7 State of the Union address.
Jeff Zients has spent much of his professional life in the private sector.
He was the White House Covid coordinator from early 2021 to April 2022.
He was especially praised for overseeing and implementing Biden's vaccination campaign.
Under Obama, Zients was an economic adviser in the government.
