2023-01-23T22:14:27.340Z

Camila Mendoza (24) was beaten to death in La Plata. They arrested her partner, 45, and another man, 32.

The couple had arrived from the coast, more than a month ago, to work in an area of farms in the Lisandro Olmos fruit and vegetable belt, on the outskirts of La Plata.

But this weekend everything ended in the worst way: the man beat the woman to death, whom he accused of infidelity.

They arrested him, along with an accomplice, who apparently invented the romance because he was angry with his coworker.

It was around 8:00 p.m. last Saturday when Juan Carlos "Chino" Segovia (45), a native of Corrientes, began to attack Camila Mendoza (24), born in Chaco, on 238 and 80 streets.

"

Tell me where your macho is

," he repeated and hit him, accompanied by Francisco "Tony" Retamozo (32), also from Corrientes.

She denied her alleged betrayal of love, but she received brutal blows again, most of them to her face, with a clenched fist, while they grabbed her hair.

Francisco "Tony" Retamozo (32), arrested for the femicide of Camila Mendoza (24), in Lisandro Olmos, La Plata.

The two men went out to look for the woman's supposed lover, a 20-year-old young man, known by the nickname "Pelado", who was also an employee in the same farm.

"

Look how he ran, he's going to fit, on top of that your wife entered

," Retamozo told Segovia at one point, according to a witness, after seeing the wanted man running out to ask the police for help.

"Tony had told Chino that I was having a relationship with his wife, but

it was a lie, since he didn't even know her name

," declared "El Pelado."

At one point, this young man confronted the assailant - who was armed with a knife - with a piece of wood and managed to contain him until the police arrived.

When the agents arrived at the scene,

it was already late

.

Mendoza, mother of a 6-year-old girl, had been murdered.

They found her in some pastures, with a naked torso and a bloody face.

According to the autopsy, he had "traumatic blows to the face and different parts of the body, with

some perforated ribs

."

the arrests

First they arrested Retamozo, who had informed his friend of the woman's alleged infidelity.

Hours later, they found Segovia hiding among the greenhouses.

He was hiding from one place to another to avoid being captured, until he was found on Route 36 and 72 Avenue.

The operation was carried out by police officers from the La Plata Departmental Investigation Delegation (DDI) and the 15th police station.

from Los Hornos, who made the arrests and kidnapped a blood-stained T-shirt owned by the victim's partner.

This Monday, the two defendants refused to testify before the prosecutor Marcelo Romero, from the UFI No. 6 of La Plata.

Segovia was charged with "

doubly qualified homicide for the bond and for mediating gender violence

."

In the case of Retamozo, only one aggravating factor is attributed to him, that of femicide.

The penalty provided by the Penal Code is life imprisonment.

According to Romero's consideration, both "taking advantage of their status as men and to the detriment of the opposite gender, physically assaulted" the victim "

with the clear intention of killing her

."

"El Pelado" insisted that he had never gone out with the woman and that it was all "a lie" by Retamozo because he was "angry" with him.

In the last ten years in Argentina there has been an average of one femicide every 30 hours.

According to the latest report from the Women's Office of the National Supreme Court of Justice, during 2020 there were 287 fatalities: 251 direct femicide and 36 linked femicide.

Most murders occur in the victims' homes and are committed by partners or exes.
