The Blahab 433 cyber unit this morning (Monday) detained a doctor from Netanya for questioning as part of an affair being investigated by the cyber unit and following the arrest of senior doctors and other suspects over a month ago, on suspicion of illegally issuing and trading licenses for the use of medical cannabis, without medical need, to the highest bidder.

The value of the offenses is estimated so far at tens of millions of NIS

This morning the police officers of the Cyber Unit in Lahav 433 detained for questioning a suspect, a doctor from Netanya who is suspected of recommending the granting of licenses for the use of cannabis illegally and without medical necessity.

The delay in the doctor's investigation follows the arrest over a month ago of senior doctors and other suspects for accepting bribes and illegally selling medical cannabis licenses to anyone who wants them, through online channels, including Telegram.

The undercover investigation was conducted last year in the national cyber unit of Lahav 433 together with the online crime departments of the central and northern districts, the tax authority and accompanied by the cyber department of the state attorney's office.

Among other things, the doctors and the others involved are suspected of committing the crimes of taking and giving bribes, cheating and breach of trust, drug trafficking and supply, drug trafficking mediation, forgery under aggravated circumstances, crimes under the Income Tax Ordinance and the VAT Law, crimes under the Money Laundering Prohibition Law and crimes under the Ordinance The doctors. More than a month ago, the investigation became public with the aforementioned arrest of the suspects and now, with the development of the investigation, this morning another doctor was detained and she is being brought for questioning at the unit's offices, at the end of which, and according to her findings, she will be brought to a hearing on the extension of her detention at the Peace Court in Israel.

The branched and complex investigation reveals that some of the suspects advertised through the Internet and Telegram channels, a service for the sale of medical cannabis licenses, which reached their customers within 24 hours and without any need for a medical history.

For the purchase of the license, the customers paid thousands of NIS and additionally paid for license renewals and increased dosages. The license was sent to the customer at the end of the process and was viewed as an authentic license signed by doctors authorized to approve it on behalf of the Medical Cannabis Unit at the Ministry of Health.

The investigation by the national cyber unit of Lahav 433 revealed a network of doctors, who recommended obtaining cannabis licenses, doctors authorized by the Ministry of Health to approve the issuance of licenses, as well as other people involved who mediated between them and the customers who requested to obtain a license for cannabis without any medical reason.

The scope of the crimes of the license issuing "industry" is estimated to be worth tens of millions of NIS.

The unit also exposed the company that provided the criminal organization with a package of services, posing as a legitimate company engaged in the exploitation of rights in the field of medical cannabis.

The company assisted the license buyers in coming up with a "cover story", which was used as an excuse for recommending the use of cannabis, guidance on how to present the cover story, help in obtaining medical documents and connection to the "recommending" and "approving" doctors to whom the company paid for each approved license.

As part of the investigation, it also emerged that in several cases drug dealers took advantage of the certificates received from the suspected doctors in order to trade cannabis for profit.

The investigation continues.
