Small children are not invited to the living room of this house in Tel Aviv where a couple lived who waited for their children to grow up to fulfill all their dreams, including a huge bedroom for themselves at the expense of their son

After two decades, it's time to renew (and for a drink too).

Before the renovation, it was quite deserted.

years pass, the needs change, and this is exactly the time to recalculate a route: Welcome to the home of a couple in their 50s, and their teenage home, which has undergone a real makeover. Now that their children have grown up, the couple turned to interior designer Noa Harel, who redesigned their home and divided its various spaces in a way that would precisely fit their needs and tastes.

Their impressive home in the north of Tel- Aviv, they purchased about two decades ago. And the couple came to the conclusion that the time had come to adapt the property to their needs and turn it into a pleasant and up-to-date living environment. For this purpose, they turned to interior designer Noa Harel, who knew how to redesign the house, divide the spaces in the optimal way and make each of them pleasant and inviting .

"The couple chose to renovate their house for several reasons, the main one being the fact that the house suited their needs very well as a young family with small children, but now that their eldest son has grown up and left, and their teenage house is about to be drafted, they realized that this is a good opportunity to make changes and updates to it," she explains the designer

"First and foremost, they wanted to turn the room floor - where originally there were two relatively small rooms for their children, a shared shower for both of them and a not very large master bedroom - into a floor with two spacious and bright suites, one for their home and the other for them. Meanwhile, something in the living room, located on the first floor The entrance is divided over two levels, it didn't quite work; one of the levels (a third of the living room area) was quite desolate and unused and their request was to turn it into a lounge area where you can take a short rest, relax on a comfortable and luxurious armchair and enjoy a good meal. Also the original kitchen It was relatively small and required an upgrade because for a family that often cooks and entertains, it simply wasn't enough."

The house has undergone a significant facelift and is optimally redistributed.

"I shortened the original, long foyer wall. I changed its location and extended it along the axis of the kitchen in order to create more storage space for them," explains Harel.

"In the center of the original kitchen stands a built-in island with a round seating area for 3 diners. I disassembled it and changed the SET UP to a spacious and comfortable dining table for 4 diners. The new kitchen is manufactured in Italy by a company that allows you to choose the exact model in terms of the color of the fronts and its slot. The fronts of the kitchen are made of wood painted in the oven and I created combinations between smooth and grooved in them. The handles are a unique and interesting detail: they sit in a recess so that when the door is closed they do not protrude out but are assimilated into the plane of the furniture. Dekton surfaces were chosen for the work surfaces."

"In the dining area, we chose a dining table covered with a concrete-like surface made of super ceramic - a durable and easy-to-maintain material, to which we matched chairs made of molded polymer material in a black shade, incredibly light and comfortable," says Harel.

The kitchen was ordered from Italy so that it would be possible to choose the model of the fronts and their slot precisely.

One of the design challenges she faced was to combine the kitchen with the living room, which is on a separate level.

"The stairs going down to the living room are challenging because they are built with railings that cannot be dismantled, which will create a sense of separation between the functions," explains the designer.

"The living room itself has a round window and another low railing, which also had to be taken into account and place a sofa there for entertaining. In addition, originally there were beams there that could not be moved, so I lowered them and thus created symmetry and a harmonious connection between the levels."

On the lower level, from which there is an exit to the well-tended garden, Harel designed the formal living room.

The seating system consists of two three-seater sofas upholstered in a luxurious fabric in a stone gray shade, matched by an armchair upholstered in the same shade of fabric.

On top of the luxurious silk carpet, I placed three round elegant living room tables of varying sizes, which have dark geometric metal legs and ceramic surfaces - one of which has a high-quality leather canopy.

She also chose an impressive buffet which she integrated under the TV screen.

It is painted in a deep black shade that adds a dimension of luxury to the space.

In the second part of the level, Harel planned a lounge corner where, as mentioned, the family members can relax at the end of a busy day, enjoy the garden, read and relax.

The impressive library in this wing is used to display beautiful books and utensils, as well as drinks: "I designed a floor-to-ceiling library, which I divided into different units. Some are open for display, and some are sealed with glass fronts that also incorporate recessed lighting, where the drinks and wine glasses are. In addition, there is a bar low rotating with drawers for storing drinks, on the back of which there is a surface on which the drinks can be prepared. There is also an integral wine refrigerator - everything you need for a home bar. Meanwhile, I was looking for an armchair that rotates 360 degrees for them. So, whoever sits on it, can To walk around for any function in the space; to read, watch TV or enjoy the beauty of the garden."

For the dining area, located on the upper level, a dining table was chosen that is a purposeful display of restraint and clean lines, which was created by Harel from solid wood legs in a charcoal gray shade with a matte finish, on the back of an upper surface made of practical anti-scratch glass with a velvety finish, also with a matte finish.

The selected dining chairs have a low back upholstered in black leather and metal legs.

Harel's clients did ask for a house in a clean and modern style based on the purity of quiet tones, but nevertheless it was important to them, and also to her, to combine pleasant tones such as the light blue in the kitchen, and elements in shades of blue and of course the warm oak parquet floor that covers the floors.

The bedroom floor has been redistributed.

The eldest son's room was canceled, and its space was divided between the parents' master and the daughter's suite.

"For their teenage home, I created a sleeping area, a large wardrobe, an area with a sofa bed and a television and a desk. The original bathroom on the first floor adjoins her room, and I created a private entrance for her that is made directly from the bedroom. The design she chose corresponds with the boho style, so beyond the parquet floor that fits into the briefcase I incorporated Also a lighting fixture made of straw, a macrame pouf, a sofa with wooden legs and a wall in shades of green reminiscent of vegetation. The bathroom is covered with green tiles and has a wooden bath cabinet."

A significant change was also made in the parents' suite, which was also enlarged at the expense of the son's room: "I completely dismantled a sort of walk-in closet that was originally there and enlarged the bathroom, now they enjoy a shower that is twice as big as the one they had before. Instead of the walk-in closet, I designed a long wall closet for them The wall of the bed that connects to the side chests next to the bed - one of them is built in as a direct continuation of the closet and the other stands on its own. The closets in the space were painted in an oven in two shades; light shades and blue, similar to the color of the wall in the room. Instead of a wall that would separate the bedroom space from the bathroom, I chose to work with a glass partition and Belgian doors. That's how I gained valuable floor space and brought natural light into the bathroom."

The basement floor, which used to be used as a playroom for the children and has storage cupboards for toys, has changed radically.

During the Corona period, the couple worked from home, therefore one of their requests was to allocate a space that would be used as a workspace.

Harel created a space for them on this floor that meets exactly the definition;

The library she planned along the wall is particularly practical and has a ladder similar to a public library.

The furniture is made of white painted metal with inlaid oak facades, the large work table is also made of wood.

The front of the work area was closed by a Belgian partition in a square pattern that, on the one hand, you can't see much through it and allows privacy, and on the other hand, it lets natural light into the entire floor.

The couple's eldest son is not deprived - the designer created a pampering bedroom for him on the basement floor for the days when he comes to stay.
