Four days after the vote of some 24,000 members, the outgoing boss of the PS and his opponent Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol are still arguing

Funny introduction: "You have people who think that a good congress is a congress that goes badly, I think the opposite, we sent a message of hope to the French and French".

This is the first sentence that Olivier Faure pronounced this Monday morning, after a psychodramatic weekend around his disputed re-election as First Secretary of the PS.

The deputy of Seine-et-Marne, in office since 2018, comes up against strong opposition from his opponent Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol, who also claims victory and cries out for the "passage in force" of the current direction.

"This is a matter of bad controversy", was annoyed on France Info Olivier Faure, arguing that "there were several votes which all go in the same direction: a vote on the orientation, where I achieved a score 49%, with a majority in the national council and a majority of delegates to the congress.

(…) The activity report was approved by 57% and only 20% rejected it.

There is now the vote for the First Secretary which I won by 51%, I have no doubt about that, ”listed Faure.

“It does not mean that now everything is fine but there is an electoral reality”, he decided.

Crisis at the PS: "There were several votes, they all go in the same direction," says Olivier Faure, whose re-election as First Secretary of the PS is disputed.

Electoral reality behind which Mayer-Rossignol and his supporters refused to line up overnight from Thursday to Friday, the mayor of Rouen declaring himself the winner of the ballot less than fifteen minutes after Olivier Faure intervened to declare his re-election.

After a first "transparency operation" late Friday morning, the party leadership agreed to convene the verification committee to check the quality of the minutes sent on Thursday evening in each department, and reports of disagreements or doubts about the good performance of the vote locally.

The commission of ascertainment has “extensively examined” the disputes, “all the minutes are available to the press, the result is indisputable”, thus considers Faure once again.

His opponent Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol storms that the work of the commission was blocked on Sunday afternoon after having examined only 45 of the 102 departmental federations.

According to Faure, “all the federations with a dispute have been checked”.

And "anything that is contrary to morality - intimidation, threats - or voting rules, all that has been removed" from the counted ballots.

Mayer-Rossignol, associated with Hélène Geoffroy, who had also presented herself to the vote of the militants, requests that the commission of proofing continue the examination.

"There will be a vote of the delegates to the congress" next weekend in Marseille, Faure closed.

Which sweeps away the accusations of lack of rigor on the organization of the ballot.

Yes, “there are cardboard ballot boxes”, especially in Seine-Maritime, the department for which Mayer-Rossignol is responsible, he recalls, yes, sometimes the vote was organized in apartments… “We are not the Republic, we are a movement, it is a reality which is not new” in the life of the PS.

An argument that will not fail to annoy.
