The areas cultivated with winter vegetable crops in the lands under the supervision of the General Authority for Forest Management and Development in Hama governorate amounted to 575 hectares, out of the total plan for the current season of 1333 hectares.
The Director of Plant Wealth in the Authority, Eng. Wafiq Zarrouf, indicated to SANA reporter that the cultivation of winter vegetables is of great importance in the local agricultural map, as it secures the requirements of the local market, pointing out that these crops include garlic, onions, beans, carrots, and leafy vegetables such as spinach, cabbage, lettuce, parsley, and root vegetables. Like turnips, radishes and carrots.
Zarouf indicated that the improved local and imported varieties of winter vegetables are being cultivated, to suit the environmental conditions, the nature of the lands, and the pathological pests, in a manner that guarantees high productivity.
For their part, a number of farmers talked about the existence of difficulties that impede the implementation of the vegetable cultivation plan, such as the high costs of production requirements, the lack of fuel, its high prices, the increase in transportation fees, freight, packaging costs, the difficulty of securing fertilizers and pesticides, and their high prices, calling for support for the cultivation of vegetables, especially fertilizers. and pesticides.
