But in times of crisis, some still look at their wallets - which ski regions are still the cheapest?

Where else can you jet down the slopes all by yourself in lesser-known places?

Beginners may also need to rent ski equipment every day.

Even then it is interesting how high the rental costs are depending on the holiday region.

As ski lovers will already think, it is mainly the Czech holiday regions that attract with the cheapest prices, while it is very expensive in Switzerland.

If you want to ski down the slopes for little money, you should travel to Harrachov in the Czech Republic.

The city on the Polish border, which gained notoriety in the past as the host of the Ski Jumping World Cup, attracts with an average rental fee of 28 euros per day and thus has the cheapest offer in comparison.

This is followed by 15 places in Slovakia, including the holiday resorts of Jasná and Liptovsky Hradok, where in many places 40.30 euros are due for the rental of equipment for an adult.

Skis, helmets and the like can also be rented inexpensively in France: in Métabief in eastern France, holidaymakers pay 42 euros per day.

Skiers pay similarly little in Borowez, Bulgaria (43 euros).

On average, ski equipment costs 78 euros per day in European winter sports areas.

The German ski areas can easily keep up: with an average fee of 71 euros per day, they are even below the overall average.

Vacationers pay particularly little when they are out and about in Winterberg in North Rhine-Westphalia: the daily rental fee in the Sauerland region is 48 euros.

Skis and the like are similarly cheap in Berchtesgaden at 56 euros.

However, if you want to jet down the slopes in trendy and often overcrowded Garmisch-Partenkirchen, you have to shell out 98 euros for ski equipment.

In Oberstdorf, too, the costs are comparatively high at 73 euros, just like in the luxury hotspot St. Moritz, the skiing meeting point of the super-rich in Switzerland, where you have to bring a fat wallet.

With an average rental fee of 187 euros, the place is one of the most expensive in comparison.

Holidaymakers have to pay the same amount per day if they want to drive down the mountains from Silvaplana Surlej, Pontresina or Celerina.

All cities are in the Swiss canton of Graubünden, which is the most expensive region in Europe.

But there is also good news for all Switzerland fans: If you want to go on a ski tour in Switzerland comparatively cheaply, you should look around Les Crosets.

The holiday village in Valais charges fees of 84 euros per day.

The two popular winter sports villages of Ischgl and Zermatt in Austria, on the other hand, are in the upper midfield with an average price of 116 and 111 euros respectively.
