There's nothing more ferocious than using a predator as an ornament.

Kylie Jenner stole all eyes on the Schiaparelli couture runway in Paris on Monday when she arrived in a strapless black velvet gown embellished with a life-size lion's head, a sneak peek of the Spring-Summer couture collection. Summer 2023 from the label which debuted moments later.

Moments after taking a seat, Jenner's surreal lion accessory was seen again on the runway alongside a host of other animalistic ensembles.

According to show notes, the collection was inspired by Dante's "Inferno" and the nine circles of hell, a metaphor for the doubt and creative torment all artists experience, creative director Daniel Roseberry wrote.

Taking inspiration literally from the three beasts featured in the 14th-century poem, Roseberry reimagined the leopard, lion, and she-wolf in the collection, "representing lust, pride, and greed respectively."

Naomi Campbell wore a black faux fur coat with a wolf's head emerging from the left shoulder, while Canadian model Shalom Harlow wore a strapless leopard sheath dress with a snarling feline head poking out of the chest.

The pieces were built entirely by hand with foam resin and other man-made materials.

Despite Schiaparelli specifying that it was "faux taxidermy," the visual parallels to trophy hunting make some social media users find the collection difficult to appreciate.

But for Roseberry, if the outfit is terrifying, it's doing its job.

"Inferno, Purgatorio, Paradiso: one cannot exist without the other," she concludes herself in the show notes.

"It is a reminder that there is no heaven without hell; there is no joy without sadness; there is no ecstasy of creation without the torture of doubt."
