The section from Kesselberg to Walchensee was one of the highlights of the road bike race of the "European Championships" in August.

But the Walchensee fire brigade criticized the organization.

Walchensee – While many spectators are still raving about this competition, the fire brigade was struggling with problems.

These were discussed at the annual meeting in the "Edeltraut" inn on Friday, as were delivery problems with the new fire engine and how to deal with a "blackout".

On August 14, the Walchensee fire brigade had the task of securing the route for the road bike race: "It's not that easy to get people together on a beautiful Sunday morning," said commander Klaus Melf.

Something must have gone wrong with the planning.

At some parking lot entrances, a firefighter, a police officer and a private person confessed: "I don't see that there are three of us doing work for nothing." The Jachenauers had recently made similar criticism at the fire brigade association meeting.

District Fire Council explains the background

Everything was actually planned precisely, countered Erich Zengerle.

Every marshal had been agreed with the police: "But in the morning someone in Munich seemed to be afraid of the rush of visitors and sent out additional police officers.

We had no idea about that, and neither did the police officers in the operations center." 21 fire brigades were involved, the Kesselberg was the only problem area, said Zengerle: "Overall, it was phenomenal how everything worked, we only have one for the barriers relatively short time window required.

The district presented itself in a great way, the pictures went around the world.”

Long delivery time for the new vehicle

The extremely long delivery times for fire-fighting vehicles are also somewhat annoying for the people of Walchensee.

The municipality had already ordered a vehicle from the Rosenbauer company in May 2021, reported Melf.

The delivery date was originally given as March 2024, but is now in August 2024.

"It's always pretended that some chips are missing - madness." Actually, it was agreed with the municipality of Kochel that the people of Walchensee would get their fire engine first.

Now it seems that the ladder vehicle for Kochel will be delivered more quickly, although it was put out to tender and ordered later: "The municipality of Kochel has kept to the agreements," stressed Melf.

"I just want to make that clear again, otherwise it'll quickly be said: The snoring cones in the community said something else."

Reinhard Dollrieß reported that the main and finance committee spoke about the two vehicles last week: "I don't know how the people in Kochler managed to get their vehicle this year - maybe they took one off the shelf." This news also came as a surprise to the municipal council, after all, a six-digit amount had to be made available for it.

Dollriess prepared the Walchenseer that the delivery could be further delayed: "I heard that the new delivery date is the end of 2024."

In the event of a blackout, contact point at the fire station

As with all fire brigades, Walchensee also dealt with the topic of "blackouts".

Melf reported that in the event of a lengthy power failure at the fire station, the contact point for the population will be set up.

The energy from an emergency generator can also be fed in there.

In the fire station there will also be a Sanka for supply.

Experts predict that in the event of a power failure, the cell phone network will collapse after eight hours.

In this case, the people of Walchensee could radio down to Kochel in the same way.

Melf: "We tested the converter on Kesselberg - it works." pr
