General Abbas and Major General Bagheri stress the importance of enhancing joint cooperation between Syria and Iran

The Minister of Defense, General Ali Mahmoud Abbas, discussed with the Chief of the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, Major General Muhammad Bagheri, in Tehran today, bilateral relations, and the promotion of joint cooperation, in a way that serves the interests of the two friendly countries and peoples.

General Abbas pointed out that the close cooperation between the two countries had fruitful results in defeating terrorism and aggressive plans, and that the victory achieved over terrorism is a joint victory, as Syrian and Iranian blood mixed on Syrian soil.

General Abbas thanked the Islamic Republic of Iran for its support to Syria in its war against terrorism, stressing the importance of continuing cooperation, consultation and joint coordination.

For his part, Bagheri stressed the depth of the Syrian-Iranian relations and said: "Syria, with its steadfast leadership, people and army, thwarted plots, defeated terrorism and preserved its independence and national sovereignty."

Bagheri pointed to the importance of the visit paid by General Abbas to Tehran in enhancing coordination and consultation between the two countries, stressing Iran's continued support for Syria in various fields.

The meeting was attended by the Syrian ambassador in Tehran, Dr. Shafiq Dayoub.

General Abbas arrived this morning in the Iranian capital, Tehran, at the head of an official delegation to meet a number of Iranian officials, and exchange views on issues of common concern.
