The Israeli police announced on Monday that they had arrested a man suspected of impersonating the secretary general of the Élysée in order to defraud diplomats, including at least one European and several ambassadors.
This 40-year-old living in Netanya, a city north of Tel Aviv, home to a large community of Israelis from France, was arrested following a request from the French police, according to a statement from the Israeli police spokesperson.
Scam attempt
According to the text, the French police were in possession of information "
on a suspect posing in Israel as the secretary general of the Elysée and having contacted ambassadors and a diplomat from a European state by telephone in an attempt to defraud using a special computer program
".
In recent years, several Franco-Israelis have been arrested by the Israeli authorities in cases of fraud.

In November, the Israeli police announced the arrest of ten people who immigrated to Israel from France and suspected of being involved in insurance fraud in France.
In August, several suspects were arrested in Israel as part of another investigation into partial unemployment fraud in France, representing damage estimated at 8.5 million euros for the state.
