Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov affirmed Russia's openness to dialogue and its support for resolving all conflicts peacefully and through dialogue, noting that Western countries stand behind most conflicts in the world.
Novosti quoted Lavrov as saying during a meeting with his South African counterpart Naledi Pandor today: “We support the peaceful resolution of disputes, and we will be ready to discuss resolving any conflicts on this planet through dialogue, but unfortunately, most of the conflicts behind which our Western colleagues stand are not moving in the direction of normalization.” the situation".
Regarding the situation with Ukraine, Lavrov indicated that Russia supported Ukraine's proposal to hold talks last year, but Kyiv itself later rejected it, and banned negotiations with Russia at the legislative level.
Minister Lavrov expressed Moscow's appreciation for South Africa's position on the situation around Ukraine.
The South African Foreign Minister said earlier that her country refused to take sides in the context of the events in Ukraine, despite pressure from the West.
Today, the Russian Foreign Minister arrived in the Republic of South Africa as part of an African tour that includes several countries.
