MP Melhem Khalaf who has taken up residence in the Lebanese Parliament with his colleague Najat Aoun Saliba since January 19 in an attempt to force the conclusion of the ballot.
The Baabda Palace has been vacant since the departure of Michel Aoun at the end of October.
Custom dictates that the presidential office be reserved for a Maronite Christian and the election is by indirect suffrage.
Several parliamentary election sessions have already taken place.
Each time the scenario is the same: the Amal parties, Hezbollah and their Aounist allies of the Free Patriotic Movement (CPL) vote blank preventing anyone from reaching a majority in the first round.
Then they retire to cause a lack of quorum (according to an interpretation of the contested Constitution).
It was at the end of the 11th session that the deputies announced their sit-in.
