A new work by the street artist Laika, entitled "Mafia sucks" (the mafia sucks) appeared during the night on the border between the municipality of Scoppito (L'Aquila) and the locality of Costarelle di Preturo, a few meters from the jail of the capital, where the boss Matteo Messina Denaro has been imprisoned for a few days.

The wall poster depicts Giuseppe Di Matteo, son of the collaborator with justice Santino, killed and dissolved in acid by the Mafia on 11 January 1996. Giuseppe is portrayed on his horse, almost "to celebrate" the capture of the superboss and instigator of the his murder, Messina Denaro himself, detained under the 41-bis regime.

"I made this poster - says the artist - a few days before reading the words of Santino, Giuseppe's father, who declared his son's 'victory', because with the arrest of Messina Denaro all the men of that heinous crime that shook the whole country at the time, I'm finally in jail."

The title of the work explicitly encloses its meaning.

"The mafia sucks - says Laika - I don't think many other words are needed".

The street artist, whose identity has not been made public, then added: "There is no forgiveness for people like Matteo Messina Denaro and for the entire system to which he belongs. The mafia is a cancer to be eradicated, the mafia is in institutions, in the actions, in the mentality, in the culture of certain people.

The artist also made his own the words of Giovanni Falcone who said: "Whoever is silent and bows his head dies every time he does it, whoever speaks and walks with his head held high dies only once".

Finally, a thought for the boss and a dedication from the artist.

"To Matteo Messina Denaro - he concludes - I wish to live as many days as possible in his conditions - he added - knowing now, that right outside his 'cage' there is depicted one of his victims who rejoices for his capture.

I dedicate this works to Giuseppe but also to Nadia Nencioni, Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino. To all the victims of the mafia".
