Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer secretly visited Abu Dhabi yesterday (Sunday) and met with senior Emirati officials, according to two sources briefed on the details of the visit.
One of the sources stated that National Security Adviser Tzachi Hanegbi joined the visit.
why is it important
This is the first visit of an Israeli minister to the United Arab Emirates since the establishment of the new government in Israel.

One of the purposes of Dermer's trip to Abu Dhabi was to discuss a possible visit by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to the United Arab Emirates.
Netanyahu stated that his first trip abroad as prime minister would be to Abu Dhabi and even planned to fly there about two weeks ago, but the visit was postponed.
The visit of National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir to the Temple Mount, which took place after the decision to postpone the visit, created tensions in the area that made it difficult to coordinate a new date.
The United Arab Emirates and six other Arab countries issued statements of condemnation surrounding the visit.
The Emiratis even asked to convene an emergency discussion of the UN Security Council on the issue.
