The IDF fears that the divisive political discourse will spill over to the soldiers, and while the new Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi has not yet addressed the issue, some commanders are taking independent steps.

In a document obtained by Walla!, the commander of the Infantry Vocational School (Bismall 8) in the Land Arm, Col. Israel Friedler, calls on his soldiers to "take responsibility, behave statefully and stay away from a toxic messiah.

" , Friedler describes the biblical story of Joseph: "(His brothers) didn't like him, they probably even hated him.

Otherwise it is not possible to explain how they sold their brothers into slavery," he wrote. "When the fortunes were reversed and he became the ruler of Egypt, he did not take revenge on them but took responsibility for them, provided for them and thereby saved his family from extinction.

He acted this way because even if some of his brothers got confused, he showed responsibility because they are brothers."

After that, Friedler moved on to refer to the political discourse in Israeli society, mainly against the background of the reform of the legal system.

"Recently there has been a divisive and toxic discourse in our beloved society, a discourse of boycotts and accusations, each side accuses the other of treachery, as if we are not members of one nation," he wrote to his soldiers.

"Soldiers and commanders of the IDF, certainly such as those who were privileged to command the unit that trains the infantry commanders, should show responsibility, be like Yosef looking for his brother."

The commander of Bismillah mentioned that at the beginning of military service, IDF soldiers committed to act according to the wording of an oath of allegiance and now, in his opinion, they are required to renew the oath.

"I call on you to repeat the words of the week, together individually, in class, in the department, in the company, in the battalion and in the branch, fighters, instructors, combat supporters, regulars and permanent personnel, all brothers," he wrote.

After writing down the IDF oath, he added, "I, like you, am ready to sacrifice my life for the homeland and the freedom of Israel, with the entire nation of Israel, without the political opinion of the men and women whom I protect influencing me." At the end of the document, the Brigadier General added, "I call on you to behave in a stately manner, to stay away from toxic and divisive discourse. Whether in a gathering of friends and family or in social networks. Speak in engaging and respectful discourse, because the trend can be changed. Even if it seems to you that your voice is negligible and unheard, it is not so. The light repels a lot of darkness."

Finally he wrote, "

The IDF spokesman refused to comment.
