Life usually gives revenge and that was what happened to
Santiago Álvarez Fourcade
, who
after overcoming a tough injury
-torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee-
had the pleasure of playing again for the Pumas 7
and scored the first try that led to the comeback of the national team against the All Blacks in the final of the Sevens Gold Cup that was played in Hamilton, New Zealand.
Before the injury
, Álvarez Fourcade,
who represents CASI at the URBA level
, was the captain of Los Pumas 7
and for this stage of the World Tour who was fulfilling that function was Matías Osadczuk, who was very generous and at the time of the celebration
gave him the cup to Santiago so that he could lift it first
.
Visibly moved and with joy on the surface, Álvarez Fourcade
took the trophy and immediately began to celebrate, imitating the celebration that Lionel Messi held
with the Argentine soccer team, which became world champion in Qatar and achieved the third star for the albiceleste
Previously, Santiago had
scored a very nice try
cutting from the left of the field to the center, looking
handsome and leaving several All Blacks players in the way
.
It was undoubtedly one of the best rewards he had after a season in which he was forced away from the rugby fields.
It so happens that, at the end of March 2022, the CASI player
tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee
in one of the training sessions carried out by Los Pumas 7 for the Singapore tournament.
Due to that same injury, he underwent surgery in May and had to miss several contests of the season.
Among them are eight stages of the Sevens World Circuit, the
Odesur Games
that were held in Asunción, Paraguay, and in which Los Pumas 7 won the gold medal, and the
Sevens World Cup
, which was held in November of the year last in Cape Town, South Africa (the national team fell in the quarterfinals against the All Blacks).
During the period of time in which he was away from the courts, Álvarez Fourcade went to see
CASI
in the Top 13 of the URBA.
He has not played for his
club for a few seasons
, because he has exclusivity with Los Pumas 7. The last post on his own instagram in which he can be seen wearing the Atlético de San Isidro shirt dates from August 2018 .
In the last time that he turned to the reduced national rugby team, Santiago reaped several achievements: he participated in the squad that went to the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games, he was two-time champion of the Madrid Sevens in 2021 and achieved a
historic bronze medal in the Olympic Games
of Tokyo 2020

At the numbers level, he played
229 games (caps) with the Los Pumas 7 shirt and rounded off a total of 47 tournaments, in which he scored 43 tries
.
His next official commitment with the national team will be shortly, since the weekend of January 27, 28 and 29 will take place the Sydney Sevens, the fifth stage of the World Tour of the specialty.
The calendar consists of 11 stages
: four have already been played) and after Sydney they will come: Los Angeles (February 25 and 26), Vancouver (March 3, 4 and 5), Hong Kong (03/31 to 04/02) , Singapore (April 8 and 9), Toulouse (May 12, 13 and 14) and London (May 20 and 21).
