The issue of infrastructure, with an emphasis on transportation, requires adjustment to the rate of population growth in the city, which is expected to be over a million inhabitants.
According to data from the Planning Administration, the existing and planned light rail lines in the capital are expected to meet the growing demand until 2030, therefore a complementary transportation solution such as the metro is required.
Elmaleh said that "the planning administration understands that Jerusalem is already fully occupied in terms of transportation, which means that all means of transportation in the city will exhaust themselves. Therefore, the planning administration, together with the Ministry of Transportation, the transportation master team and the Ministry of Finance, began to examine alternatives for building a metro in Jerusalem."
