A police official commented today (Tuesday) on the murder of the contractor Nissim Esseig, and said that "already at the beginning, findings indicated that the shooting was carried out by Roni Levy, Esseig's brother-in-law."

The background to the murder is a financial dispute, Roni Levy was a guarantor for a sum of money, part of which ended up on the gray market.

According to the source, the suspect is silent in the investigation and is not cooperating.

The source also said that the suspect also had debts to banks, and not only to criminal elements.

"We estimate that it is an amount of hundreds of thousands of shekels," he said.

"Roni asked for part of the money back from his brother-in-law and this is probably the source of the conflict."

The source told about the investigation and said that the gun used by the suspect was not found.

About three weeks ago, Assig's daughter, Shay, said that it was a terrible family tragedy.

"My father was murdered by his brother-in-law," she cried.

"My uncle murdered my mother's brother in cold blood. You see him in the video, everyone saw that it was him, but I wasn't able to see the video. My father got out of the taxi and my uncle shot him. The police are looking for him."

She also told about her father that he was a lieutenant colonel in the army and that he left behind three children and five grandchildren.

"He was an honest man. My father only did good and he deserves respect. He fought in all of Israel's wars and contributed to everyone. The world is shaking. This is a man who had no evil in him, intelligent, he made sure to make a living with dignity and he was my whole world. I am divorced and without him I would not have Nothing. It's a terrible tragedy. I'm holding the whole family. I'm broken."

The 60-year-old Essig was already almost a virgin.

In the "safari disaster", which happened in March 1985, he was the only survivor who came out unharmed.

Life was given to him as a gift, and he felt that way all his life.

The inferno truck exploded near a convoy of four Safari trucks, which was traveling towards southern Lebanon.

In the attack, 12 IDF soldiers were killed and 14 others were wounded. "I was the commander of the convoy, so I sat in the lead vehicle," he repeated in the past. "We crossed the perimeter fence, and then a bright red local van appeared in front of us.

We ordered him to stop and get down to the side of the road.

He veered slightly to the side, waited for the safari truck to approach and then exploded.

I was the only one not hurt.

Kind of a miracle.

Perhaps my name Nissim, which was given to me because of the difficult birth, helped a little."

Contrary to expectations, Assig distanced himself from the event by deciding not to go to the cemeteries or the hospitals, where the wounded were admitted. "The families were angry with me, but I received backing from the Chief of Staff at the time, Shaul Mofaz," he said.

Only in 2003, after 17 years of disconnection, did he renew contact with the soldiers and families live on the program "Shishi Begaon", which happened to be filmed in Or Akiva.

"I was told that they were supposed to bring my mother from the audience to the stage. Yehoram Gaon approached me and asked me to come up as well. Suddenly the screen opened, and all the soldiers from the convoy were there. It was hard for me to hold back the tears. This event will forever be a part of me, because it is what made me what I am I am, and above all it made me sensitive to people."

His great pride was in the neglected neighborhood of Or Akiva, where he grew up.

The boy who grew up in the neighborhood is the owner of the company that is renovating it, and he is the one who managed to match two huge companies, Shikhon and Binui and Dahar, to demolish the housing estates in favor of 1,750 apartments overlooking the sea from the higher floors.

The boardwalk project in Or Akiva will be established as a flagship neighborhood for evacuation and construction in the place where it grew up.

"For me it's the closing of a circle," he said.

"Not only my family, but also the families I grew up with and lived in poverty will return to new apartments in front of the sea.

Nissim lived in Rishon LeZion in the Nechalat Yehuda neighborhood.

Since he was released from the army with the rank of lieutenant colonel as deputy commander of the armed forces and head of the UN (organization and human resources), he has become one of the pioneers in the field of evacuation and construction.

Dozens of projects have passed under his care.

Essig started to engage in regeneration already 12 years ago.

Over 50 projects passed under his hands, and he made partnerships with the largest companies in the economy.
