In the Western countries there is a tendency to form a diplomatic agreement to supply a significant number of tanks to Ukraine.
This is after months in which Ukraine begged the West to supply it with tanks that would allow it to break through the Russian defense lines and recapture territories in the east and south.
The West has so far refrained from supplying Ukraine with tanks, fearing that this would lead Putin to an escalation of the conflict.
Another fear of the West is that the supply of tanks will drag the NATO alliance into a conflict. An adviser to the president of Ukraine said this evening (Tuesday) that the shipment of "several hundred tanks" would amount to a "blow in favor of democracy, against the Russian autocracy."
The German newspaper Der Spiegel reported Today (Tuesday) Chancellor Olaf Schulz decided to send German Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine, and to allow other countries, such as Poland, to do so. The news was not confirmed by the German Ministry of Defense, but earlier a spokesman for the government said that "we will conduct these procedures with due urgency" .

Poland said it had sent a formal request to Germany to allow it to send the tanks to Ukraine.
At the same time, senior American officials in Washington said that it is possible that the United States will remove its objection to sending to Ukraine Abrams tanks produced by it.
Abrams tanks are considered the least suitable for the war in Ukraine, due to their high fuel consumption, and the difficulty in maintaining them.
However, such a step may encourage Germany to join the initiative.
The German tanks are considered the best option for Ukraine due to their availability in considerable numbers in Europe and the ease of their deployment.
Commentators say that Poland's request to allow it to export the German tanks did not leave Schulz much room for maneuver, and he will find it difficult to postpone his decision.
"I hope that Germany's answer will be received soon, because the Germans are delaying, evading and driving in a way that is difficult to understand," said Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.
At this point, the long front between Ukraine and Russia is at a relative standstill, despite the heavy losses on both sides.
However, both Ukraine and Russia are believed to be planning new attacks.
