With the cases registered this Monday, there are already 20 murders that occurred in the first weeks of the year. The governor changes a provincial police chief every four months.

Two new crimes were registered on Monday night in Rosario, raising the statistic to 20 homicides in just 24 days of the year.

In different episodes, but with similar mechanics carried out with a hitman seal, in addition to the two fatalities, three people were injured.

The first episode occurred minutes before 9:00 p.m. in the República de la Sexta neighborhood.

From a vehicle they attacked a group of people who were on the sidewalk.

As a result of the shots, Walter Alastra (45) died, while two men and a woman had to be hospitalized with gunshot wounds.

The victim was shot in the chest.

Although he underwent emergency surgery, he died at the Provincial hospital.

A 52-year-old woman was admitted to the Clemente Álvarez Emergency Hospital with an injury to her right foot.

Two young people, 19 and 20 years old, were also taken to the Provincial.

One of them had an impact on the left leg and the other on the pelvis.

A few minutes later the second crime occurred.

It happened around 9:30 p.m. in Los Gallegos at 1100, a sector in the west of the city near the World Cup field hockey stadium where the women's team of that sport became world champion in 2010.

According to police reconstruction, a motorcycle passed by with two occupants.

The man behind shot Brian Alvarez, 30

, and his companion, a 25-year-old boy who sustained injuries.

Both were on the sidewalk when they were surprised by the attackers.

Alvarez died at the San Martín polyclinic, while his partner remains hospitalized at the Clemente Alvarez Emergency Hospital (Heca) with a wound to the lower back and another to the left leg.

He is out of danger.

Four 380 caliber pods and six 9mm pods were seized at the scene.

With the two crimes on Monday night, 20 were registered in the first weeks of the year.

It is a start to the year that seems to sustain

the steep curve of 2022, when the statistics set a record: 287 murders were committed,

the highest number in the history of the Great Rosario.

In the midst of a new wave of violence,

Governor Omar Perotti ordered last week the renewal of the police leadership in

charge of security in the Rosario department.

Commissioner Adrián Galigani took over from Margarita Romero.

She is the tenth police chief that the Gran Rosario has had since Perotti took office, in December 2019.

The department changes driving, on average, every four months, a symptom of the enormous difficulties in containing the rates of violence that have plagued the city and its surrounding areas for at least a decade.

One of the first measures announced by Galigani is the incorporation of 700 new agents to patrol the streets.
