Minister of National Security Itamar Ben Gvir today (Tuesday) accused the legal advisor to the government, Gali Beharev Miara, of stopping a discussion in the Knesset committee to amend the police order at the last minute for technical reasons.
The special committee to amend the Police Ordinance, also known as the "Ben Gabir Law", chaired by MK Ofir Katz (Likud) was supposed to begin discussing the second part of the law and the sections that subordinate the commissioner to the minister that were rejected before the formation of the government.
Ben Gvir claims that minutes before the hearing, the legal counsel to the government demanded to stop the hearing and pass the private bill in the usual procedure through a committee of ministers for legislation.
"Once again the legal advisor to the government is harming the work of the government and the Knesset and acting as the one who runs the government of Israel," attacked Ben Gvir.
"The Legal Advisor to the Government has known about the hearing for several days and also held a preliminary meeting yesterday evening, but she waited until the last moment - half an hour before the hearing, in order to delay it for another week. This is the outrageous behavior of someone who repeatedly thinks that she is running the Israeli government, and not advising it ".
In the meantime, Ben Gvir and Commissioner Kobi Shabtai will hold a press conference this evening. In a statement from the office of the Minister of National Security, it is stated that the two will make "important statements".
There will be a press conference tonight.
