INTERVIEW – The actor and his friend Yvan Le Bolloc'h return this Tuesday, January 24 on M6 in a fiction celebrating the 20th anniversary of the short program.

Bruno Solo and Yvan Le Bolloc'h put on their wine-colored shirts and colorful ties to celebrate the 20th anniversary of

Caméra Café

.

The two friends, creators of this series which made the heyday of M6 from 2001 to 2004, are back, this Tuesday, January 24 at 9:10 p.m., in an anniversary unit that they produced and which will be followed by a never-before-seen documentary about the program's success.

For the occasion, the sets were rebuilt identically and all the actors of the fiction responded, except the psychologist, played here by Lucien Jean-Baptiste.

We find Hervé Dumont and Jean-Claude Convenant there in 2019 when the latter, the embodiment of the absolute redneck, has just been made redundant.

Gathering her things, memories of the past twenty years flood in.

The two friends dive back into it thanks to new flashbacks.

"Yellow Vests", #MeToo, attacks, climate crisis or Covid:

we discover how they lived these two decades with the humor and the impertinence which made all the salt of this series.

Bruno Solo talks about this project that was close to his heart.

TV

MAGAZINE.

- How did the idea for this unit come about?

Bruno Solo.

- It's been a while since we thought that it would be logical to make a special to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the series.

We decided to start from the idea of a continuous day interspersed with flashbacks that take us back from 2001 to 2019. We tossed ideas right and left and our historical authors got down to work.

Do we find the humor of the series?

Camera Cafe

couldn't be lukewarm.

The first thing we asked M6 and they granted us was that we write with the DNA of the series.

We cover everything: social networks, yellow vests, attacks, the climate crisis, swing your pig…

How have the characters evolved?

You have to imagine Jean-Claude Convenant and Hervé Dumont as we know them - sexist, macho, a little illiterate, with a slight tendency to drink for the first and spineless, cowardly, corrupt and crooked trade unionist for the second.

We discover them from 2001 to 2019 and, alas, history has passed without it having transformed them much.

They're kind of dinosaurs that don't understand anything.

Hervé pretends to see the world evolve, Jean-Claude, he suffers the full force.

I wanted that, even if we have tenderness for them, we look at our characters for what they are: somewhat cowardly, greedy and totally overwhelmed men.

How did you experience filming?

I was both in front of and behind the camera.

During the whole shoot, I felt in a trance.

Despite the hours of work, I wasn't tired... You can love this job as much as I do, but that's not possible anymore.

I have an absolutely devouring passion for my work as an author, director or actor.

I hope what we have done is funny and successful on the merits.

In terms of form, it's really unique with a lot of original axes and cinemascope shots.

"I couldn't work without Yvan, I would feel like an orphan"

Bruno Solo

How do you share the tasks with Yvan Le Bolloc'h?

Me, I like the staging, the direction of the actor.

Yvan, he is the man of flashes.

Camera Café,

basically, it's his idea.

We were looking for a way to do something a little theatrical in the style of Deschiens, a tribute to rhythm and pure comedy, and he thought of that!

I couldn't work without him, I would feel like an orphan, I would miss a limb, a leg...

How did you feel when you all found yourself on the sets?

We had a moment of vertigo.

It was moving to be all together.

The sets had been destroyed and we redid them identically in Brussels.

The actors almost all cried when they landed on the set.

We felt a mixture of happiness and nostalgia with the feeling of passing time.

What were the pitfalls to avoid in this fiction?

It was not necessary to be exhaustive and to cover all the subjects.

We listed all the events that happened from 2001 to 2019 and we wondered about which there was reason to do something funny, fierce, discourteous, cynical or rude.

There are certain themes that we could not avoid, such as the arrival of social networks which even condition the fact that we make a unit.

Couldn't you do

Camera Café

again today?

I don't think that would be good.

When we did

Camera Café

between 2000 and 2004, there were no social networks.

Our sketches certainly made certain people or associations react, but in front of their television, during a family reunion or in a newspaper.

Today, with the strength of social networks, we would spend our time doing sketches as much as justifying them.

It would be unbearable!

On television, a reluctance has settled in humor programs.

Some series are funny but they won't rub shoulders with the subjects we rub shoulders with in

Camera Café

because the creators say to themselves "We're not going to get out of it"...

What does

Camera Café

represent in your career?

That's all !

This allowed Yvan and me to work on a regular basis, to do theatre, cinema, television.

We invented a series that sold worldwide and we created a band of comedians.

Camera café

, that's what we'll leave behind when we're old decrepit actors and we've lost our memory.

What are your next desires?

I shot the first

Meurtres à

which took place in Saint-Malo ten years ago.

Since then, there have been more than 80!

We shot again with Louise Monot a

Murder in Saint-Malo,

ten years later last November.

Otherwise, I'm working on writing the sequel to my book

Les visitors d'histoire

.

This time, I no longer receive my guests, it is I who go to their homes.

I thus go to see Rabelais or Cléopâtre and I engage in a dialogue with them by relying on the work of researchers and historians.

I will be at the Hébertot Theater in September 2023. The stage is essential for me.

Theater is my drug.

Where do you find the time to do it all?

I'm very organized and I'm not someone who goes out.

I work in trains, in hotel rooms... I'm hyperactive.
