She is something of a global political star - even after her resignation.
During her last appearance in office, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern appeared cheerful, relieved and grateful.

It is her last official appearance as Prime Minister of New Zealand.
And while doing so, Jacinda Ardern, dressed in an indigenous feather coat, manages to give the event a very personal touch:

The annual meeting of politicians and Maori elders served as the backdrop – another well-considered gesture.

“I want you to know that my amazing experience with New Zealand and New Zealanders on this job has been one of love, empathy and kindness.
That's what the majority of New Zealanders said to me.
And I want you to know that I am leaving with a greater love and affection for Aotearoa New Zealand and its people than when I started.
And I didn't think it was possible.
So my last words are: 'Nga mihi nui kia koutou katoa'.
I thank you from the bottom of my heart for the greatest privilege of my life.«
On January 19, she surprisingly announced her resignation.
The reason given was that she no longer had enough energy for the grueling job.
Ardern's justification and the courage to show weakness were praised by many observers around the world as a sign of their strength.
