new construction of a private house in Hod Hasharon

Residents:

a couple + 4 adult children

The area of the house:

about 220 square meters built on a plot of one dunam

Construction budget:

about 2.8 million NIS

Architecture and interior design:

architect Irit Mandelovich Sitbon

on a plot of About a dunam in one of the old neighborhoods in Hod Hasharon is the house of a family of 6 (a couple with four adult children). Near the purchase of the lot, its new owners, a couple in their 50s, decided to demolish the old structure that stood on it and build in its place a house that would precisely meet their current and future needs To this end, they turned to the architect Irit Mandelovich Sitbon, who designed a bright and pleasant house for them that relates to the narrow and long lot route and harmoniously combines the modern and the rustic lines. The budget for building and designing the house was NIS 2.8 million (not including the price of the lot).

"The house is part of an old two-family building located on a narrow and long lot," explains the architect.

"In order not to get a kind of narrow and long axis even inside the building, I divided the house into two wings by planning the entrance in the center of the building. In one wing, the one facing the back of the lot, the public space and the couple's master bedroom were planned. In the other wing facing the front of the street, suites were planned The children's sleep when each of them has their own bathroom."

"In order to create as many openings as possible in the facades, I planned a patio in the center of the space that allowed me to open up the space as much as possible and bring inside the well-kept Japanese garden outside in the best possible way. In addition, I made sure to incorporate in the various spaces of the house representations of the interests, hobbies and passions of the members of the house, so for example in the entrance area a A dedicated niche for a piano used by the music-loving family and in particular the musician son - for whom I also designed an additional area in his private room for an electric piano."

Above the piano in the entrance area, the architect designed plaster shelves at a precise height that allows them to absorb the resonance of the playing.

This way the acoustics in the public space are kept optimal at all times.

In front of the piano niche, an aquarium wall was designed that creates a buffer between the entrance hall and the kitchen space.

While in their previous home metal (which is associated with industrial and modern design styles) was a central material motif, in the new home the owner wanted to incorporate as many wooden elements as possible: "We combined them to an extent in order not to create a gloomy and heavy look," explains Mendelovich Sitbon, "We covered the floor In the three-layer split oak parquet and in the roof, which rises up to a height of about 6 meters, we used visible natural wood legends."

The exterior environment and the facades are just as impressive as the interior: in order to combine the rustic style without being overwhelming, the architect covered the rear facade facing the pool with bricks from demolition, while the others were covered with pigmented plaster in a light, elegant and refreshing shade of coffee: "The idea was to create a light and contemporary Tuscan look. The bricks from demolition penetrate the interior of the building and also repeats in the wall of the foyer and the power wall in the living room. In front of the mottled Portuguese shingles, the solid wood legends stand out, which we met on the ceiling of the public space, and here they were used to create a pergola under which stands the outdoor hospitality area. Since this is a family that hosts a lot of people, it was important for us to create hospitality areas for them in different constellations Also in the outdoor environment. For this purpose, both the dining area and the lounge area of the living room, the pampering sofas by the pool and a cheap corner with a wood-burning fireplace near the pool - which is mainly used by the children and their friends - were designed.

As with many other projects she believes in, Mendelovich-Sitbon designed this house based on the purity of green building principles, the most prominent of which are the natural lighting and air passages: "The green roof consists of two roofs: the one visible to the eye is the ceiling of the legends, and above it is a contralto plate that allows circulation of the hot air and on hot summer days, it lowers the average temperature by about 3 degrees. Meanwhile, I took into account the light and air directions of the lot and placed the front door in the northwest direction so that in the summer a cool and refreshing breeze penetrates in. In practice, the air conditioner in the house is only turned on one month of the year, In August, of course."

The spacious kitchen, which overlooks the garden, was also designed in a rustic style with bright colors: "This is actually the only area in the public space that I defined by a porcelain granite floor," explains the architect.

"In such an active space, the wooden floor would wear out and get stained quickly, so I chose a durable and easy-to-maintain material that simulates stone. Around the island in the center of the space, I created a statement with painted tiles in colors that are associated with the colors of the public space. The chosen surface creates a contrast to the bright kitchen facades; it is a granite marble surface Natural imported from India in a green shade with sinews that give it a shade of rust. I covered the island with a split oak panel that connects well to the floor and ceiling."

In the center of the accommodation space stands a bearing wall covered with bricks in which the architect designed a wooden fireplace.

It creates a conceptual division between the dining area - where there is a table around which 25 diners can sit, and the intimate living room where she combined a sofa in a coffee shade and two armchairs - one in ocher (yellow) and the other in turquoise.

The powerful chandelier in this area is made of floating brass tubes;

On the one hand, it is modern and on the other hand, its color adds tenderness and warmth.

The guest services were designed by Mendelovich Sitbon near the entrance hall, away from the public space.

At the entrance to them, she created a bearing wall to which she attached an external bathroom cabinet, so that the sink is actually outside the small bathroom and makes it more spacious.

The parents got a suite in the always quiet rear wing of the house.

"I knew it would be properly maintained and preserved for years."

The couple's master bedroom is also located in the wing, near the front of the rear, which guarantees silence and privacy at all times.

In the center of the bedroom is a huge bed and further on a make-up area for the owner of the house and a 4-meter-long closet, which also serves as a partition between the sleeping area and the work area.

The work area is completely detached and secluded from the lively and dynamic public space, and faces the pleasant view of the garden.

The second wing, the one facing the street front, is dedicated to children.

Mandlovitz-Sitbon designed for them a luxurious TV corner and bedroom suites that fit the taste, character and needs of each of them: "When I plan a house, I divide it into a grid already at the initial planning stage; I map the area and examine which locations will benefit each of the functions. It was important for me to place the The public wing and the parents' master are in the quieter rear area, while the adult children's wing, who come to the house alternately, I planned in an area closer to the front of the street," she explains.

The bathroom cabinet was placed outside the bathroom.

The bathrooms in the house are bright, spacious and luxurious.

Each of them received its own characteristics and colors according to the user's needs.

For example, for the bathroom in the parents' master, the architect chose a free-standing sink, knowing that it will be well maintained and kept at its best for years to come.

In addition, she designed for them a large and luxurious shower and a bath cabinet with a solid wooden frame, in the center of which is a designated place for storing laundry.

In order to facilitate maintenance, the children's bathrooms were designed with integral sinks sunk into a cast marble slab.
