At 11:15 last night (23rd), the 30-year-old fire chief surnamed Sun and another 60-year-old male security guard surnamed Zhong became critically ill and were hospitalized in Queen Mary Hospital.
The Fire Services Department replied today (24th) that the hospital was careful to prevent the fire chief’s respiratory tract from being infected by smoke, so he was arranged to enter the intensive care unit for observation, and his condition became critical. He is currently in stable condition.
The Fire Services Department has arranged for the welfare team and the psychological service team to contact the family members of the injured and provide all feasible assistance.
"Hong Kong 01" today asked the Fire Services Department about the situation of the fire chief involved and his main work in the Robinson Road fire.
The Fire Services Department replied that the fire chief was the incident commander at the time of the first-level fire on the scene (the fire was later upgraded to a third-level fire), and was responsible for directing fire fighting and rescue work.
He inhaled heavy smoke while directing work, and the hospital arranged for him to enter the intensive care unit for observation to prevent his respiratory tract from being infected by the smoke. He is currently in a stable condition.

The incident happened at 12:01 noon on the first day of the Lunar New Year (22nd) in a unit on the 23rd floor of Huihui Court, No. 9 Robinson Road. While the residents were singing karaoke, the karaoke machine suspected to be short-circuited and caught fire.
The unit was engulfed in flames, thick smoke spewed out the windows, and the outer walls of the two or three floors upstairs were also blackened. Smoke seeped even from the lobby on the ground floor. Some residents heard the help of their domestic helpers.
During the fire, 7 people were unwell and sent to the hospital.
