Opinion "Black time" Grossman calls the situation Israel today

2023-01-24T08:02:42.705Z

How is it that Grossman is not aware of the fact that the true emotion he is expressing on stage is the existential emotion of my life from day to day is more or less beyond my opinion

What caught me the most in all the reports about the big demonstrations on Saturday night, was David Grossman's speech.

I treat these demonstrations with a treasured rage and a great effort, which sometimes bears the fruit of generalizing and showing empathy for the pain that stands behind them.

I manage to ignore many texts that are heard in them and violate my peace of mind.

Grossman, on the other hand, I do not ignore.

For years now I have taken seriously and seriously the author's words, which I hear as words of authority.

Grossman's participation in the demonstration also helped me understand the pain and believe in the purity of the protesters' feelings.

Then came the content, which managed to arouse in me both great sympathy and great pain, and even anger.

"More and more I meet people, mainly young people, who do not want to continue living here. What is happening here is foreign to them and makes them unwillingly strangers in their own country," Grossman told the demonstrators.

"Israel, as it is today, has ceased to be a home for them, and in order not to suffer from the feeling of foreignness, they put themselves in a kind of 'internal exile'... and if so many Israelis feel 'exiled within their own country,' it is clear that something is going wrong."

I have to say honestly, at the first listen my claims were closed.

And how can you argue with pain that is expressed with such sensitive clarity?

They are evidently true.

But the second thought took me to another inner truth, my truth, and to a question that someone must ask David Grossman, and that is - does he somehow know that this format, which he presented with measured words and talent, is a format known to many generations and to many publics who are now on the other side of his barrier ?

This clear feeling, of living in a place that could have been pleasant and welcoming and even one that was good and comfortable to live in, but is not "my" place - is the existential experience of almost every Jew of certain sectors in Israel, almost all the years of its existence.

It is possible to list here the names of all the groups and tribes that make up Mol-Grosmanite Israel, but let's skip that and talk in general terms:

Countless Israelis, the vast majority of whom vote on the right, have lived their entire lives with a feeling of otherness and foreignness, even if it is inaccurate and even if no one can be blamed for it - it exists and is present, and for some, like the one signed above, it is really, really existential and becoming for a life story.

And for that reason, even before we discuss the question of how it is that the left-wing camp has so little trust in the right-wing camp, how it is that he hesitates to attribute to him intentions of destroying the country - another question must be asked: how is it that a sensitive person like David Grossman is not at all aware of the fact that the true emotion he expresses above the stage And in his name he calls, in the end, to go out and do something - he is the existential feeling of my life from day to day I am more or less on my mind, in his shadow I lived and created and maintained a dialogue with my community and with other Israeli communities, and in his shadow I formed an identity of which Grossman himself and his books are a part Inseparable from her?

Why can't it be the other way around?

were we wrong

We will fix it!
