Protests and social unrest in Peru will cause a small temporary increase in inflation in the South American country for the month of January, Peru's Finance Minister Alex Contreras told TV Peru on Monday.
Contreras told TV Peru that inflation for the month of January could be between 8.8 and 8.9% year-on-year.
“Despite the context, [companies] trust Peru and many want to continue increasing their participation.
I repeat, mineral prices are a factor that makes our mining [industry] more competitive than ever,” Contreras said.
Meanwhile, the Arequipa airport, the aviation hub of the country's second-largest city, will remain closed until at least this Wednesday, according to a statement from the country's airport authority.
