Criticism of metal band Pantera: Hitler salute and racist statements
The singer of the US band Pantera, Phil Anselmo, made racist remarks on stage in 2016 and showed the Hitler salute, videos of which are circulating on the internet.
Shortly after the announcement of the Pantera appearance at the end of last year, a number of users had already expressed criticism on Instagram.
Among them was author Jasmina Kuhnke, who called on other bands to boycott Rock im Park and Rock am Ring and not share the stage with Pantera.
At the two twin festivals in Nuremberg and at the Nürburgring in the Eifel at the beginning of June, largely the same bands appear at different times.
The Greens in the Nuremberg city council asked the organizer to reconsider Pantera's performance and to uninvite the band again.
"The former Nazi Party Rally Grounds is a place of perpetrators and therefore a place of admonition," said the party.
Only a sign of human dignity and peace should emanate from here.
The organizers finally decided not to let Pantera perform.
Organizers want to give the band "a chance".
The organizers explained that they had sought talks with Pantera and the management in advance.
"In several conversations we have received credible assurances that Phil Anselmo's conduct in 2016 in no way reflects the views of the band and that he sincerely and deeply regrets his actions," the statement said.
They want to give the band "a chance".
