Snow cover is just enough: almost everywhere in the north of the district, cross-country ski trails have been groomed again

The hope grew centimeter by centimeter until it was fulfilled on Sunday: in many places in the northern district, the track setters were deployed.

Cross-country skiers and skaters are currently not finding the best conditions, but at least good conditions on the usual loops.

Only one municipality could not make its mark - and that's not because of the snow.

Holzkirchen

– The first snow of the season fell unusually early.

At the beginning of December, winter sports enthusiasts were already looking forward to a few "white days" on the meadows and fields of the northern district;

but before Christmas all the trails were thawed.

The snowfall of the past weekend (January 21/22) heralded the second phase of the cross-country skiing season around Holzkirchen.

At least until next Sunday, frosty temperatures and - especially on Friday - even more snowfall are announced.

Cross-country skiers can strap on the slats almost in front of the front door without having to drive far into the mountains.

With 38 kilometers spread over seven circuits, the market town of Holzkirchen organizes the largest network of cross-country trails in the north.

As Tim Coldewey from the location promotion in the town hall reports, all loops have been rolled and groomed since Sunday.

"Our volunteer drivers were on the road from 1 a.m. to 4 a.m. on Sunday night," reports Coldewey.

Some of the loops are connected.

However, between the Roggersdorfer and the Föching/FOS round, a short walk is currently the order of the day near Maitz via the state road and the forest kindergarten.

"Sometimes a bit of grass sticks out on the routes," says Coldewey, "but it's good to drive everywhere." His favorite route: the undulating terrain of the Roggersdorfer Waldtrasse.

"It is varied and snow stable."

For orientation, there are larger overview boards at four locations.

"We are in the process of creating new tables, also because some of the curves have changed slightly in the meantime," says Coldewey.

In previous years, the town hall invested 10,100 (2021) and 8,100 euros (2022) in maintaining the trails.

This is only possible because the landowners play along.

"We are grateful for the concession," says Coldewey.

A statement that all “loipenspurer” in the north agree with.

Hartpenning

TSV Hartpenning had already prepared for a junior race on Saturday.

Since Sunday, recreational athletes have also been romping about on the routes south of Großhartpenning.

"The snow cover is thin in places," reports TSV section manager Georg Zinsbacher.

The TSV does not yet offer the night trail.

Zinsbacher asks all cross-country skiers to be considerate of other road users when parking at the Sportheim.

And at the weekend he observed again how walkers use and damage the cross-country ski trails.

His appeal, which applies not only to Hartpenninger cross-country ski runs: "Please do not walk on tracks and do not take dogs with you."

Weyarn

At TSV Weyarn, too, there are volunteer drivers who set tracks for cross-country skiing and skating on the meadows south of the sports center.

"Skating has been particularly good since Sunday," says Albert Zinsbacher, spokesman for the cross-country ski group.

Locals and day trippers take advantage of the offer, which includes a "Lauberhorn descent".

"We are also happy about donations," says Zinsbacher.

The circuits, freshly prepared by the SC Wall, were already well attended on Sunday.

Starting from the Sportheim on Hummelsberger Straße, three loops of different lengths (up to 7.5 kilometers) can be taken under the slats in the direction of Bürg and Bernloh.

"From time to time the meadow looks out," reports division manager Georg Kuhn, "but the passages are easy to slide over." As everywhere at the cross-country trail entrances, cash registers are set up for voluntary donations.

"That covers our fuel costs," says Kuhn.

Valley

In Valley, the current snow cover is not yet sufficient to activate all of the usual cross-country trails.

"We still need a few centimeters to get over corn fields and fields," says DJK division manager (Nordic skiing) Helmut Adelsberger.

At least the sports field circuit (night run on Tuesdays and Thursdays until 8:30 p.m.) and about two kilometers in the direction of the motorway are groomed.

Otterfing

Nothing is going on around Otterfing yet - much to the chagrin of the community.

The building yard manager and "cross-country ski trail boss" Franz Huber uses a tracker from outside the community to draw the routes.

"Unfortunately, there are currently technical problems when transporting the tracking device," says Mayor Michael Falkenhahn.

He knows that many Otterfingers are eagerly awaiting this winter sports attraction on their doorstep.

"We want to solve the problem as soon as possible."
