Ibrahim Abu Rakeyk, who was convicted of causing death by negligence in a car accident in Ramla, overtook a traffic light and lost control of his vehicle.

26 months of actual imprisonment.

This is the sentence handed down today (Tuesday) by the court to Ibrahim Abu Rakik (25) of Kiryat Ekron who negligently caused the death of the five-year-old girl Jud Abu Janem in a car accident in Ramla, and the injury of her mother, her sister and three other people.

The indictment states that in February 2020, Abu Rakik was driving a BMW on Herzl Street in Ramla.

When he arrived near the market, the traffic light changed to red and he stopped with several vehicles in front of him.

At the same time, the mother and her two daughters were walking on the sidewalk.

Another man was sitting in a chair outside the nearby kiosk.

When the traffic light changed to green, Abu Rakey turned to the opposite lane while crossing a continuous dividing line and overtaking the vehicles in front of him.

Following that, he swerved to the right into the travel lane, tilted the steering wheel hard to the left and lost control of the vehicle.

As a result, the vehicle went onto the pavement and hit a fire hydrant which was thrown into the kiosk with the tables and chairs flying everywhere.

As a result of going up on the pavement and losing control, the vehicle hit five-year-old Jude, her mother, her sister and two other people.

The prosecution demanded 32 months in prison

Jude was taken to the hospital and later pronounced dead.

The other injured were also evacuated with varying degrees of injury to the hospitals.

Abu Rakeyk was also accused of speeding over the limit, crossing a continuous dividing line and not slowing down or braking.

As mentioned, Abu Rakeyk was convicted of causing death by negligent driving.

During the arguments for the punishment, the prosecutor's office requested that he be sentenced to no less than 32 months of actual imprisonment, disqualification of his license, a fine and adequate compensation for the family of the deceased and the victims.

Judge Shiri Shemer sentenced him to 26 months of actual imprisonment, nine months of probation, 12 years of license disqualification and compensation of 50 thousand shekels to Jude's family.
