Munich – park the car, do the weekly shopping – actually something quite everyday for Munich residents.

When returning to his car, a city dweller experienced a nasty surprise.

Traffic ticket on Edeka parking lot: Customer should pay 30 euros

"I went shopping for about an hour and parked in the Edeka car park during this time," reports Stephan H. to our editors.

While shopping, the Munich resident was given a ticket in the parking lot of the branch on Plinganserstrasse.

The incident happened at the end of October, six weeks later the Edeka customer received a reminder.

In mid-January, the Munich shared the story on his Facebook account.

Stephan H. also posted a photo of the reminder there.

It says: "The following parking or usage violation was determined: (...) The driver parked or parked the vehicle without a valid parking permit.

The driver therefore has (...) to pay a contractual penalty of 30 euros.” There were also 3.50 euros in dunning costs and 5.85 euros for identifying the driver.

So H. had to pay almost 40 euros for his parked car.

explained H. in the warning letter: "Our General Terms and Conditions (GTC) apply to this parking facility, which are clearly displayed on signs on the property."

The stunned Edeka customer did not want to simply accept the fine: "After I was absolutely not aware of any guilt, I lodged an objection and also attached proof that I was only shopping.

At the same time, I informed Edeka's headquarters," Stephan wrote on Facebook.

Many Munich residents should be happy about that: parking permits for residents will probably only cost 30 euros a year this year.

The Free State does not want to change the regulations.

"Completely speechless" - Edeka refers to the commissioned parking company

The complaint to the supermarket was unsuccessful: "Both the headquarters in Hamburg and the headquarters for Edeka Südbayern replied that the monitoring had unfortunately been outsourced to an external company and they could not promise me that anything else could be done", according to the Edeka customer.

The Edeka customer's explanation that he had only gone shopping met with little understanding from the parking surveillance company: "Meanwhile I have received a letter from the external company, according to which they (...) unfortunately see no reason to waive my fine. A completely incomprehensible reaction for the Munich resident: "I'm completely speechless, but I'll pay the ticket now because I have neither the time nor the inclination to continue to annoy myself with it."

"Retailers have domiciliary rights" - Edeka refers to individual regulations

When asked by our editors, Edeka has not yet commented on the allegations.

However, the supermarket giant reacted to the angry customer's Facebook post and advised him to contact the responsible store management: "Our stores are managed independently.

The respective retailers have domiciliary rights, which also apply to the parking lot on the property.”

The company also says: “[The branches] can therefore decide individually how to deal with the parking space – in this case, the decision was made to rent it out to an external company.” The summary of the frustrated customer: “Edeka obviously loves Groceries, but not the customers.”

No more foreign parkers in the parking lot.

A Munich start-up helps supermarkets and fast food outlets.

You already manage 1000 parking spaces.
