"Patient station building"

The proposals from the parliamentary groups were available, had already been discussed in advance - and yet the Herrschinger municipal councils had a hard time on Monday when it came to the future use of the station building.

A planner should now develop a usage concept.

Herrsching

– The ideas of the Herrschinger municipal council factions for the future use of the station were already compiled in November and discussed in a closed conference.

On Monday, the committee had to decide whether a small refurbishment solution would suffice for a lack of funds for the time being, or whether all options should be exhausted immediately, including cultural use, for example.

This in turn requires a change in use, which automatically necessitates a major renovation, explained the head of the building authority, Guido Finster.

And above all, the ghosts were initially divided.

The municipality of Herrsching has owned the station building since 2008, but the railways only released it in 2021, which is why a structural analysis was only carried out last year to determine the scope of the renovation measures.

The two-story buildings with hipped roofs, projections and dormers, which are connected by an open waiting room and which characterize the townscape, were built for the opening of the railway line in 1903/04 and are listed monuments.

The wooden staircase and "richly forged ground floor grilles in Art Nouveau forms" are given special mention.

All measures must therefore be evaluated under this aspect.

That's one.

Regardless of future use, something has to be done - among other things, the entire building services and basement ceilings have to be renewed and the supports of the roof structure in the station hall have to be renovated.

Measures that, according to Finster, are mandatory and immediately necessary.

So a small solution.

That is why he pointed out to the council that a change in use, through expanded gastronomy or cultural use, would require a building application that would place far more demands on fire protection, statics and inventory protection - i.e. a large and therefore expensive solution.

Mayor Christian Schiller allowed himself to be tempted to use the phrase "patient station building" at the beginning and pointed out that only planning costs are planned for the current financial year.

Gertraud Köhl (Greens) therefore also suggested "baking with small rolls".

In return, she would accept leaving culture out for the time being.

Alexander Keim (FDP) argued in a similar way, for whom it was particularly important to “stop the decline”.

And yet he wished to "start bringing life back into the store."

Like him, most of his fellow councilors seemed to have two hearts beating in their chests.

And in the end the heart beat for opening the building after 16 years of standstill, for a change of use and for a large, extensive renovation.

Only Traudl Köhl and Michael Bischeltsrieder (CSU) voted against it.

Finally, Schiller prevailed by giving the planner, who is now supposed to create a usage concept, the appropriate key points for examination.

In any case, gastronomy is desired - larger than before.

“Mr. Vetter has to stay” was the wish of many Herrschingers in a street survey conducted by the BGH last year.

With the exception of Keim and Bischeltsrieder, the municipal councils also voted in favor of Hansgeorg Vetter, the “travel advisor at the station” having to stay.

"His ears must be ringing at home," said Schiller, laughing.

With only a narrow majority of eleven to nine votes, further business opportunities are to be taken into account in the concept.

Unanimously, however, was the desire to continue to allow apartments in the two head buildings.

And just as unanimously, the councils want a public toilet,

which does not necessarily have to be in the building, but at the suggestion of Christoph Welsch (Green Party) could also be in an adjoining building.

"It's the only way we can keep our options open," he said.

The possibility of allowing culture separately from gastronomy (4:16) as well as a public lounge (7:13) was rejected.

The planning service is now tendered accordingly.
