Despite the great controversy that arose recently about the possibility of sending German Leopard tanks to Kyiv and the opposition of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to such a move in the first place, and then stipulating that Washington send Abrams tanks to Ukraine, the latter eventually acquiesced to America’s demands, ignoring the widespread popular rejection within his country for the move.
And at a time when Russia confirmed that supplying Kyiv with new weapons would not change the reality of the matter, but rather would bring more problems to Ukraine and increase the escalation, Douglas MacGregor, retired colonel and former adviser to the US Department of Defense, announced to the Pentagon that Washington realizes that Kyiv will soon be defeated and wants to hand over the tanks to it only to prolong the fighting. .
And the Russia Today website quoted McGregor as saying: Officials in Washington “feel that it is a lost cause, and the defeat of Ukraine is certain and inevitable, and the American administration is trying to understand how this suffering can be prolonged.”
MacGregor added: The United States is pushing Europe, especially Germany, towards decisions that are considered, from a legal point of view, “armed aggression.”
The US administration, headed by Joe Biden, is moving towards supplying Kyiv with (M1 Abrams) tanks, provided that these supplies will be announced during this week, while the American Wall Street Journal indicated that this step may be part of a diplomatic understanding between Washington and Berlin to encourage the latter to send Tanks (Leopard 2) to Ukraine or to allow other countries such as Poland to provide Kyiv with tanks of this type.
And after Britain paved the way for its allies in NATO and Europe by sending Challenger 2 combat tanks to Ukraine, attention turned to Germany to take a similar step, and what became clear during the past few days was that Berlin could not bypass or reject American orders, so it was only that It acquiesced in Washington's decision to send Leopard tanks, apparently to catch up with Norway, as Norwegian press reports revealed that the government in Oslo is studying the possibility of sending Leopard tanks as well to Kyiv.
