Such was André Leon Talley, a charismatic and influential American figure in the fashion world, who worked for forty years at

Vogue

and whose imposing figure and exuberant allure did not go unnoticed in the front rows of the Paris and New York catwalks.

When he died in January 2022, at the age of 73, Anna Wintour, editorial director of the American magazine with whom he worked closely, paid tribute to him: "

Being his friend meant being part of the an erudite and gilded existence that he had created for himself from scratch;

it meant being in the orbit of a person who had the incredible gift, amplified by his immense charm, of always happily turning up the volume of life on high, really high.
