An indictment was filed today (Wednesday) at the Haifa District Court against Nadal Abu Latif and his accomplice Amar Dabah, for the attempted murder of a businessman in a restaurant in Kfar Yasif, about two months ago.

An indictment against three others involved in the attempted murder was already filed at the beginning of the month, but as of that time the police had not yet captured Abu Latif and Dabah, who cut off contact with their surroundings and left their places of residence.

For the escape they are accused of obstruction of justice.

The hunt and investigation was conducted by the central unit of the North District.

Abu Latif, 38 years old, born in Kfar Rama and now a resident of Kfar Wardim, is one of the main targets of the Central Unit of the North District, which defines him as the head of a criminal organization.

Since the murderous incident, the police conducted an extensive manhunt for him that lasted about a month, and in the end, ten days ago, the chase ended almost randomly near Tamera, when in the Yakneam area a citizen complained about a vehicle running amok on the road on its way north, and aroused his suspicion.

The Northern District police officers who were called deployed roadblocks and chased the vehicle.

YSM police officers who were part of the force stopped the vehicle north of there in the Tamra area, when Abu Latif and Dabah were discovered in the vehicle, who were on their way to the north, with two others. A large amount of cash, some in foreign currency, personal equipment, sticklite blankets, heating pads and more were discovered in the vehicle, according to The police's suspicion is aimed at survival in the field.

According to the prosecutor Maya Misleh from the Haifa District Attorney's Office, it was discovered that Abu Latif made an inquiry regarding the rental of a yacht, data that strengthens the belief that he intended to flee the country. She reminded the court that Salim Shokor, a defendant in the case that had already been filed, was arrested on the night of the incident at the port Ben Gurion Airport.

In his investigation, Abu Latif did not deny that he was at the "Arabsk" restaurant that evening, the scene of the man's murderous stabbings, but he claimed that he recognized suspicious movement outside the restaurant, he feared for him and his friends and even for the victim, the businessman who he claims is his best friend, and summoned him to warn him.

He claimed that the businessman was drunk, pulled out a knife and tried to attack his friends, and their actions were a response to violence directed at them from his direction.

He claimed that he himself only pushed him in order to separate and leave the restaurant, and thus during the incident he was injured and cut.

He explained that he did not turn himself in and appear for questioning because he did not trust the police, and thus later he did not cooperate with his investigators and maintained his right to remain silent.

Dabach gave a similar version, made a similar claim against the police and emphasized that already in the first days after the incident it became clear that the police were hiding and ignoring things and that because it was "their group" the police were exaggerating things.

The other three defendants in the already submitted case maintained their right to remain silent, as did the victim of the five.

He denied holding a knife and claimed that everything could be seen on cameras, but beyond that he maintained his right to remain silent and did not respond to questions intended to deepen the investigation.

Abu Latif has no previous prison terms, but he has five previous criminal convictions for the offenses of violating a legal parent, interfering with a police officer, a drug offense, obstruction of justice, conspiracy to cause damage, and this in addition to 28 traffic convictions.

Dabach has three criminal convictions and 23 traffic convictions.

Today, at the same time as the indictment, the prosecutor's office requested the extension of the detention of the two until the end of the legal proceedings against them.

"In the video, you can see that neither of them is holding a knife or stabbing. It is not clear why the prosecutor's office decided to charge them with attempted murder," Lavala said!

The lawyer Bassel Falah, who represents Abu Latif Wadbah, "it turns out that this whole case is based on the obsession of the police and the pressure they exerted, without any legal basis."
