A knife attack on a German train traveling from Hamburg to Kiel on Wednesday afternoon left two dead and six others injured, a spokesman for the German Federal Police told CNN.
German police said the attack occurred at the Brokstedt station in northern Germany, but it was not yet clear whether the train was stopped at the station or was traveling nearby.
The suspect in the knife attack is in custody, the Federal Police spokesman added.
The railway line is closed.
There are three "serious" injuries, according to a spokesman for the German Federal Police who is at the scene of the events.
Two passengers were killed in the attack, according to police.

The attack occurred at around 2:55 p.m. local time (8:55 a.m. ET), the police spokesman told CNN, adding that Germany's criminal investigation department has opened an investigation to clarify the circumstances of the crime.

The authorities have not yet provided information on the motive for the attack.
The federal police spokesman stated that evidence is being secured at the scene and witnesses are being questioned, after which the authorities will be able to provide more information.
