The leaders of Latin American and Caribbean nations demanded that the United States end its blockade of the Cuban and Venezuelan people, and supported Argentina's legitimate rights to the British-occupied Falkland Islands.
The Venezuelan Telesur channel stated that the leaders of 33 countries from the Group of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) pledged in a joint statement at the conclusion of the seventh summit of the group today, to strengthen cooperation and integration between their countries, work to confront the climate crisis, and support building democratic institutions and pluralism.
The statement affirmed the commitment of the members of the group to moving forward in the process of integration and strengthening the unity and political, economic, social and cultural diversity of the peoples of their countries.
The 111-item statement highlighted the importance of consolidating Latin America as a zone of peace, enhancing food security and deepening cooperation in the field of health.
In turn, Ralph Gonsalves, Prime Minister of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, pledged upon assuming the rotating presidency of the group to work for peace, social justice, prosperity and global security.
The summit witnessed the presence of Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva on his first trip abroad, since he assumed office on January 1, as well as Brazil's return to the Group of Latin American and Caribbean States, after his predecessor Jair Bolsonaro withdrew from it.
In a video speech during the summit, Chinese President Xi Jinping affirmed China's willingness to cooperate with countries in Latin America and the Caribbean to promote world peace and development, build a community with a shared future for mankind, and open up a brighter future for the world.
