Schleswig-Holstein's Prime Minister Daniel Günther was shocked by the deadly knife attack on a train north of Hamburg.
On Wednesday evening in Kiel, the CDU politician spoke of a terrible and senseless act that cost the lives of two people.
"Schleswig-Holstein is mourning - it's a terrible day," said Günther.
Kiel – He thinks of everyone who mourned and feared for the injured.
"I received this news myself this afternoon with deep sadness and dismay," said Günther.
His thoughts and prayers are with the people and their families.
Günther thanked the emergency services for their work and also those who had taken care of the passengers and witnesses on the train and the injured.
In the afternoon, an attacker killed at least two people and injured several on the regional train from Kiel to Hamburg.
