Berlin – In the wake of the energy crisis, electricity prices have risen rapidly.
Many consumers in Germany now have to shell out a lot more money for electricity than they did a year ago - despite the electricity price brake, which only applies to 80 percent of the previous year's consumption.
A change can therefore be worthwhile.
Basic suppliers raise prices at the beginning of the year
Since the beginning of the year, new customer prices for electricity outside of the basic supply have been falling.
With the Darmstadt-based energy company Entega, there is a basic supplier that plans to reduce prices for electricity and gas customers on April 1st.

reports, consumers will then have to pay 42.08 cents for the kilowatt hour of electricity in the basic supply tariff, which is 25 percent less.

Otherwise, the opposite is the case with basic suppliers: many of them increased their prices significantly at the beginning of the year.
As a result, the basic supply is almost always the most expensive option on the market, writes the comparison portal stromauskunft.de.
A change of provider can therefore be worthwhile again even with a price brake.
More than 400 euros savings possible when changing electricity provider
An overview by Verivox shows the current average cheapest electricity providers nationwide (as of January 23, 2023) in comparison to the average costs nationwide in the basic supply.
The information applies to a model household with three people and a consumption of 4000 kilowatt hours.
According to this, a saving of over 400 euros is possible if you switch from the basic service to the cheapest tariff.
