Nick Sands, brother of Julian Sands, told a UK publication that he knows "in his heart" that the actor is "gone" as California authorities continue to search for him.

Julian Sands was first reported missing in the Mt. Baldy, California area on January 13.

Authorities are "entering the second full week in their search for missing hiker Julian Sands. Numerous ground and air search efforts have been underway," according to a news release from the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner's Department. As of this time, Mr. Sands has not been located and no evidence of his current location has been found."

The other hiker, Jin Chung, a 75-year-old Los Angeles resident who was last seen on Sunday, was found with “some weather-related injuries and a leg wound, but was able to walk with the help of members of the team".

Chung "was transferred to a local hospital for treatment," the press release stated.

"There is no further information currently available."

Authorities said they are continuing their search for the 65-year-old Sands, remembered for his roles in "A Room with a View," "The Killing Fields" and "Arachnophobia."

His older brother spoke to the

about his fears regarding his brother's disappearance.

"He hasn't been declared missing yet for dead, but I know in my heart that he's gone," Nick Sands said.

"However, knowing sibling rivalry for what it is, it would be like him showing up to prove me wrong."

Nick Sands also opened up about his brother's love of hiking.

“When he was in Los Angeles, the Mt. Baldy range was his favorite place, he went there as much as he could,” Sands said.

"Julian liked to say, 'I've never had a vacation, but I take a break from time to time.' Well, now he's resting in a place that he would really approve of."

Officials warned in their statement: "Many hikers, experienced and novice, underestimate the steep terrain, unpredictable weather, and high winds that occur in our mountainous areas" and advised that "hikers avoid dangerous mountainous areas, such as Mt. Baldy, right now."
