At 11:33 p.m. on the fourth day of the Lunar New Year (25th), an elderly woman fell off the tracks at the Sheung Shui-bound platform at the Fanling Station of the East Rail Line and was trapped under the train.
Firefighters and ambulances were on the scene to rescue them; until about 0:05 a.m. on the 26th, the injured were rescued and handed over to ambulancemen for first aid.
The female victim, surnamed Tang, is 79 years old. She was seriously injured and was taken to Prince of Wales Hospital in Shatin by ambulance.
The MTR said at 0:20 am on the 26th that the incident had been dealt with and the East Rail Line train service was gradually returning to normal.

The MTR stated earlier that due to people entering the track area of Fanling Station, the train service between Tai Wo and Sheung Shui Station on the East Rail Line is currently suspended; the train between Admiralty and Tai Wo Station will maintain every 8 minutes.
MTR is currently arranging shuttle buses from Tai Po Market to Sheung Shui Station to pick up affected passengers.
Based on past experience, the MTR Corporation expects to take about 45 to 60 minutes to deal with such incidents.
