Paula Durán, the Colombian mother who was diagnosed with terminal cancer in the United States and whose story of survival moved thousands, died Tuesday, her husband reported on social media.

"Today we have a little angel in heaven who takes care of us," said Sergio Vega during a live broadcast on Instagram.

"He died in my arms, I hugged her, I hugged her and I was there until my last breath."

It was Durán's husband who made Paula's case go viral, managing last week for the United States to grant her parents in Colombia a humanitarian visa to accompany her during her illness at her home in Concord (California), where the couple emigrated just recently. eight months.

Durán's parents met with her on January 20.

Durán, 27 years old and mother of three children, was diagnosed in the eighth month of pregnancy with 

stomach cancer and a large tumor in the brain. 

The cancer metastasized rapidly.

His relatives had said in recent days that his health was deteriorating rapidly.

Her husband reported this Tuesday that Durán died at 3:00 pm (local time).

The couple immigrated to California after crossing the southern border with their two daughters.

They were expecting their third child when Durán was diagnosed with terminal cancer and doctors gave him a month to live.

At that time Durán was going through the 34th week of pregnancy and the doctors had to operate on her to remove her baby, Juan José.

She also underwent an operation to stop the cancer.
