The Russian ambassador to Germany, Sergei Nechaev, described Berlin's decision to send Leopard tanks to Ukraine as very dangerous and would take the conflict to a new level of confrontation.

Sputnik quoted Nechaev as saying today: Once again, we are convinced that Germany, like its closest allies, is not interested in a diplomatic solution to the Ukrainian crisis. This decision meant the final refusal by Germany to recognize historical responsibility for the crimes of the Nazis.

Nechaev added: Berlin made such a decision on the days of the eightieth anniversary of breaking the blockade imposed on Leningrad, in which hundreds of thousands of Soviet citizens were killed, pointing out that the decision destroys the remnants of mutual trust and causes irreparable damage to Russian-German relations.

The German government announced earlier today its intention to supply Ukraine with 14 Leopard 2 tanks, and to allow other countries to supply Kyiv with tanks of the same type from their own arsenals.
