A police officer from one of the police stations in the south was arrested yesterday (Tuesday) on suspicion of accepting bribes from criminals and disrupting an investigation that was being conducted against them.
The Department of Police Investigations announced that he was taken in for questioning, and his detention was extended by five days.
Meanwhile the investigation continues.
Lawyer Tamer Esadi from the public defender's office representing the policeman responded: "These are suspicions, and the investigation is at the beginning, the detainee denies what is attributed to him. This is a respected policeman who fully cooperated with his investigation and gave a detailed version. I believe in his innocence and hope that the truth will be revealed soon."

About three weeks ago, a police officer was arrested on suspicion of stealing property from the station where he served, such as weapons and drugs confiscated from criminals.
The police investigation department took the officer in for questioning, and he is suspected of drug offenses, theft of property, accepting bribes, wiretapping and obstructing an investigation.
According to the suspicion, the police officer with the rank of sergeant major carried out a foreclosure as private work for the benefit of a contractor and received payment for it instead of doing it as paid police work. In addition, he is suspected of illegally eavesdropping on his partner.
A week earlier, an indictment was filed against the commander of the Rosh Ha'Ein Avi station Alxalsi for stealing motorcycle accessories from the station's warehouses that had been seized earlier and marked as stolen. Last week, a senior police officer in the flag unit in the Central District was questioned on suspicion of installing hidden cameras in a women's restroom at the station where he serves. The officer was also questioned on suspicion of sexually harassing a female police officer who serves with him in the unit. The suspect was detained for questioning , and at the end of it he was released to house arrest, and removed from all police stations.
