The British Times Higher Education (THE) announced the ranking of the world's most international universities in 2023. There are 5 universities in Hong Kong on the list, and 4 of them have entered the top ten. The University of Hong Kong has once again ranked first in the world. Not included in the list, this year's newcomers ranked No. 4 and No. 6 respectively, while HKUST fell two places to No. 5.
As for CUHK, which ranked 9th last year, fell out of the top ten and ranked 17th.
THE ranking of the world's most international universities is based on the proportion of international students, international faculty members and international co-authored papers of the university, as well as the international reputation of the university.
In this year's ranking, a total of 5 universities in Hong Kong are on the list, 4 of which are in the top 10, with outstanding results.
Among them, the University of Hong Kong once again ranked first in the world. THE explained that among the more than 18,000 students in the University of Hong Kong, more than 43% are international students. The university teaches in English and focuses on international education. Its vision also outlines that measures will be taken to expand the international influence of the University of Hong Kong and recruit more staff and students overseas.
As for CityU and PolyU, they have soared from not being included in the list last year to No. 4 and No. 6 respectively this year.
THE said CityU has more than 1,200 students participating in the exchange program each year.
As for HKUST, it fell two places to No. 4. THE refers to HKUST as one of the fastest-growing universities in the world. More than one-third of its students are international students from at least 60 countries, and about 80% of its teachers are from overseas.
CUHK, which ranked 9th last year, fell out of the top ten this year, ranking 17th.
In terms of other universities, Imperial College London ranked 7th, Oxford University 8th, and Cambridge University 9th; apart from Hong Kong institutions, only the National University of Singapore, which ranked 10th, is an institution in Asia.
PolyU responded that it was encouraged by being on the list for the first time and ranking No. 6. President Teng Jinguang said that the ranking reflects the recognition of PolyU’s internationalization efforts in personnel training and scientific research, and will continue to strengthen cooperation with partners around the world in the future In order to play a more important role on the stage of world higher education.
